OCTH110 - Introduction to Occupational Therapy - 3 credits

This course introduces students to the core of occupational therapy and its history and development. The focus of the course is on human occupation as a health need and means of promoting and restoring health.

OCTH112 - Principles & Practice of Occupational Therapy - 4 credits

This course aims to provide students with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills in basic tools of the profession: Occupational Therapy models of practice, activity analysis and adaptation, teaching and learning, the therapeutic relationship, and assessment of occupational function and dysfunction. A client centered approach is stressed.

OCTH120 - Introduction to Health Care - 3 credits

This course introduces students to the concepts of health and healthcare and the factors influencing health and healthcare delivery in Palestine. Local health care systems will be studied.

OCTH121 - Introduction to Anatomy & Physiology - 4 credits

The purpose of this course is to develop an understanding of normal movement and function. Students will be introduced to the study of the musculo-skeletal, circulatory and respiratory systems. This course comes with one hour per week lab course with activities to re-enforce theoretical learning.

OCTH122 - Introduction to Neuroanatomy - 2 credits

This course introduces students to the structure and function of the nervous system. Central, peripheral and autonomic systems will be studied and the material integrated with OCTH 121. This course comes with one hour per week lab course with activities to re-enforce theoretical learning.
Pre Requisite: OCTH121

OCTH124 - Ergonomics - 2 credits

This is a two credit course designed to familiarize the student with the principle and practice of ergonomics, using a client centered PEO model and related approaches. Ergonomics is a subject of growing importance in occupational therapy and one which is relatively new to Palestine. Students will carry out ergonomic assessments in the community and in the university setting. A new and emerging role for occupational therapists is in occupational health with the focus on wellness and the importance of maintaining good mental health at work as highlighted in the centennial vision for occupational therapy. Occupational science has an important relationship with occupational therapy in producing theory and evidence based practice research. It analyses occupation and seeks to identify problems and seek justice. In the final module of this course you will be introduced to this area. This course comes with lab course OCTH002.

OCTH210 - Occupational Therapy Theory I - 4 credits

This course aims to provide students with the theoretical knowledge to assess and plan occupational therapy intervention for clients with biomechanical problems. Topics include biomechanics, kinesiology assessment of person, occupational and environment. Evidence- based practice is emphasized.

OCTH211 - Occupational Therapy Skills I - 4 credits

This course addresses the skills needed to assess and implement occupational therapy intervention within a biomechanical framework. It includes assessment of performance components such as ROM, and areas such as ADL; mobility skills such as transfers and wheelchair management, and orthotics. This course comes with one hour per week lab course with activities to re-enforce learning.

OCTH212 - Occupational Therapy Skills II - 4 credits

This course addresses the skills needed to assess and implement occupational therapy intervention for clients with neurological disorders. It includes sensory-motor and cognitive perpetual assessment, remediation and compensation, ADL assessment and training, assessment and adaptation of the environment.
Pre Requisite: OCTH121 and OCTH122

OCTH220 - Human Growth & Development - 4 credits

This course aims to introduce the students to a broad concept of the physical, psychological and social dimensions of human growth and development from conception to death. It considers the normal milestones of development and the combination of influences which aid or hinder individuals achieving these goals.

OCTH221 - General Pathology - 3 credits

This course aims to provide an understanding of the basic pathological processes and clinical conditions treated by occupational therapy and physiotherapy. Topics to be covered will include infection, inflammation, degeneration, immunity and carcinogenesis.

OCTH308 - Occupational Therapy Theory III - 3 credits

The focus of this course is on pediatrics. Occupational therapy theory related to neurological, developmental, sensory integrative and learning disorders are covered. The function and importance of play in normal development and treatment are explored.
Pre Requisite: OCTH220

OCTH309 - Occupational Therapy Skills III - 4 credits

This course develops practical skills in the areas covered in OCTH 308. Students learn skills in the assessment and treatment of children with neurological, developmental, sensory integration and learning difficulties in the home and school environment. Students learn to identify “at risk” infants and children.

OCTH310 - Occupational Therapy Theory II - 3 credits

This course aims to provide students with the theoretical knowledge to assess, plan occupational therapy intervention for clients with neurological disorders. Topics will include pathology of disorder such as CUA, head dementia, and assessment of person occupational and environment. Evidence- based practice is emphasized.

OCTH311 - Occupational Therapy Theory IV - 3 credits

This course aims to provide students with the theoretical knowledge to assess and treat occupational performance problems related to mental illness, personality and relationship problems, trauma and institutionalization. The role of the environment and social networks will be emphasized

OCTH312 - Occupational Therapy Skills IV - 4 credits

This course addresses the skills needed to assess and implement occupational therapy intervention for clients with mental health problems. It includes observation and interview based assessments. Group dynamics and group work and stress management. Personal development and self-evaluation and reflection are important components.

OCTH313 - Community-Based Rehabilitation - 4 credits

The aim of this course is to emphasis that rehabilitation can best take place in the work and home environment. Students will become aware of community needs and multi-disciplinary care for the whole person.

OCTH314 - Adaptive Equipment Workshop - 3 credits

The aim of this course is to enable students to learn how to design and make appropriate furniture, toys and everyday living aids appropriate to the individual needs of persons with disability and to the local situation.

OCTH330 - Teaching & Presentation Skills - 3 credits

Students will learn practical skills in the use of media and programs such as PowerPoint and Photo-Shop in order to produce material for teaching, publishing and health education and promotion

OCTH353 - Health Services Management - 3 credits

This course aims to give the students an appreciation of the principles of management related to planning and organization of health services. Topics to be covered will include management of personnel and resources, setting objectives and policymaking.

OCTH356 - Research Proposal Writing - 3 credits

This course will develop an understanding of the evaluation process and different research methodologies. Students will develop skills in information retrieval, critical analysis and application of research studies to the health sciences, and develop a research proposal related to occupational therapy.

OCTH357 - Research Seminar - 2 credits

Following on from research proposal writing the student will implement a small research project. This will entail gathering and analysis data and presenting their study at a seminar at the end of the semester.

OCTH401 - Clinical Field Work I - 2 credits

This course is an introduction to clinical practice. The emphasis is on observation of occupational therapists assessing and treating clients, practice in interacting with people of all ages and abilities and development of professional behavior.

OCTH402 - Clinical Field Work II - 3 credits

This course provides students with an opportunity to perform specific procedures under the direct supervision of an occupational therapist. The emphasis is an assessment, intervention with clients, specific intervention, and responsibility for overall treatment planning and evaluation with the therapist. Students are expected to demonstrate professional behavior.

OCTH403 - Clinical Field Work III - 4 credits

These courses provide students with opportunities for assessment, goal setting, treatment planning and implementation and program evaluation, under the supervision and guidance of an occupational treatment plans and participate in team meetings.

OCTH405 - Clinical Field Work V - 5 credits

The student will complete the occupational therapy process, using the knowledge and skills gathered over the four years. Successful completion prepares the student for the independent placement. Prerequisites: OCTH 401,402,403,404

OCTH406 - Clinical Field Work VI - 5 credits

Independent Placement These courses provide students with opportunities for independent practice in a setting which does not have an occupational therapy department program. Students are expected to develop a proposal regarding the role of occupational therapy and to provide a comprehensive occupational service appropriate to the needs of the setting.

PHTH110 - Introduction to Physiotherapy - 3 credits

The course aims to provide a theoretical basis for the history and development of Physiotherapy profession in local and international basis. The role of Physiotherapy will be discussed within the context of total health care, teaching, research, clinical consultation and administration. The students will integrate the academic knowledge to practice and develop and awareness of movement based on Biomechanics principles through the given subjectsfrom introduction to human movement.

PHTH112 - Principles of Physiotherapy - 4 credits

The course aims to provide a theoretical basis for therapeutic use of manipulation movement and thermal and electrical techniques. Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of patient care, with practice of some of the “caring skills” provided to complement the theory. Students will discuss the professional relationships and responsibilities of physiotherapists. Included in the coursewill be an orientation to clinical fieldwork.

PHTH120 - Introduction of Health Care - 3 credits

The aim of this course is to introduce students to a broad concept of health and health care and the factors that influence health in both positive and negative ways. Factors that influence health in Palestinian society will be emphasized. Local models of health care delivery will be studied. Students will be actively involved in the gathering, presentation and critique of information. The role of occupation in maintaining health will be discussed. The wider goal is begin developing students’ thinking skills, to explore their own learning styles, to begin a commitment to being a lifelong learner focusing on their own individual efficiency.

PHTH121 - Introduction to Anatomy & Physiology - 4 credits

The purpose of this course is to develop an understanding of normal movement and function. The student will be introduced to the study of the muscular-skeletal, circulatory and respiratory systems. These topics will be studied in greater depth in subsequent courses. This course comes with one hour per week lab course with activities to re-enforce theoretical learning.

PHTH122 - Introduction to Neuroanatomy - 2 credits

This course is a major course that introduces students to the structure and function of the nervous system and the special senses. It builds on material taught in PHTH121 (Introduction to Anatomy and Physiology) and provides the basis for study of disorders of the nervous systemand their impact on occupational functioning.

PHTH210 - Physiotherapy Theory II - 4 credits

This course involves the study of pathology conditions affecting upper and lower limbs of the body. Further study of kinesiology, anatomy and physiology needed to understand the disease process will be included. The following topics will be studied; soft tissue injures; trauma and orthopaedics, peripheral vascular disease, peripheral nerve lesions and arthritis in relation to limb problemsThis course comes with one hour per week lab course with activities to re-enforce theoretical learning.

PHTH211 - Physiotherapy Skills I - 5 credits

This course expands some of the concepts introduced in PHTH 112 in order to integrate them into the physiotherapy process. Students will learn to examine and assess patients, plan a treatment program, implement that program and evaluate its efficacy. Students will learn the manual muscles testing, range of motion measurement, edema measurements, sensation measurements, basic therapeutic exercises, posture analysis, gait training and balance training in the practical laboratory sessions. This course come with lab course PHTH002

PHTH212 - Physiotherapy Skills II - 5 credits

This course related to PHTH 210, 310 and 211. Topics covered would include movement and manipulative skills and the use of appropriate treatment techniques to the pathological conditions studied. Students will develop these skills in practical laboratory sessions.

The following topics will be studied: trauma, post amputation, orthopaedics, neurology, paediatrics, general medicine and surgery, rheumatology, cardio-vascular conditions, obstetrics and gynaecology, respiratory conditions, dermatology andburns. This course comes with one hour per week lab course with activities to re-enforce theoretical learning.

PHTH311 - Physiotherapy Theory III - 4 credits

This course involves the study of pathological conditions resulting in multiple pathology and progressive disability. Further study of anatomy and physiology needed to understand the disease processes will also be included. The following topics will be studied: neurology, paediatrics, geriatrics, and mental and physical disabilities.This course comes with one hour per week lab course with activities to re-enforce theoretical learning.

PHTH312 - Physiotherapy Skills III - 4 credits

This course related to PHTH 310 and PHTH 311. Students will develop skills and techniques appropriated for neurological and medical conditions. Topics will include: functional training , Functional training has its origins in rehabilitation. hydrotherapy and aerobics fitness ( including cardiac rehabilitation) that appropriate to the pathological conditions studied. Electrotherapy will be covered as well in this course. Students will develop these skills in practical laboratory sessions.

PHTH313 - Community-Based Rehabilitation - 4 credits

PHTH353 - Health Services Management - 3 credits

The major goal of this course is to prepare students to analyze and assess strategies for effective health care management in the complex, evolving, and global world welive in. Students will achieve a broad knowledge of the healthcare management as well as examine new frontiers in organizational theory and practice. Students will develop the knowledge of the basic management skills required for people working at health care settings. The class will be encouraged to debate issues from various angles and think both creatively and practically about the various issues surrounding the healthcare management industry today. By discussing these issues through case studies and divergent theories, students will become better equipped to positively impact the industry with an emphasis on mission, vision, values, organizational and team behavior, and leadership.

PHTH355 - Research & Evaluation - 5 credits

This course develops an understanding of the evaluation process and different research and evaluation methodologies. Skills developed include retrieval of information from a range of sources, critical analysis of research literature and interpretation and application of research studies to the health sciences. At the end of the course students present a proposal for a project of their choice in the area of physiotherapy practice.

PHTH356 - Research Proposal Writing - 3 credits

The aim of this course is to enable the students to use the scientific research methodologies during the study of clinical and administrative problems of health professional practice. Subjects to be covered will include the major considerations in selecting a research problem, the steps of research applications, common research designs and components of the research, literature review and documentation, results presentation, analysis and discussion and the final statement of conclusions and recommendations of the research. In addition to the skills of writing a scientific paper for publication

PHTH357 - Research Seminar - 2 credits

Following on from research proposal writing the student will implement a small research project. This will entail gathering and analysis data and presenting their study at a seminar at the end of the semester.

PHTH401 - Clinical Field Work I - 3 credits

Students will complete a six-week full time period of supervised clinical practice during the summer session of the First Year of the program. This practicum will be mainly observation. Students will orientated them to the clinical setting and gain experience in relating to patients and staff in clinics, hospitals and rehabilitation centres. In this course students will be expected to complete 144 practical hours.

PHTH402 - Clinical Field Work II - 5 credits

Students will complete a six-week full time period of supervised clinical practice during the summer session of the Second Year of the program. The practicum will relate to PHTH 110, 112, 121, 122, 210, 211, 220, 221, and 310. Students will gain experience assessing and examiningpatients with condition affecting more than one area of the body manipulative and movement techniques only. In this course students will be expected to complete 144 practical hours.

PHTH403 - Clinical Field Work III - 5 credits

Students will complete a sixteen-week period (split on two periods 8 weeks each) of clinical practice in the third year during the spring semester. This period will relate to PHTH 310 and 212. Students will gain experience in treating patients with conditions affecting inter-related areas of the body using manipulative, movement, and electrotherapy modalities. In this course students will be expected to complete 270 practical hours.

PHTH404 - Clinical Field Work IV - 5 credits

Students will complete a fifteen-week period (split on two periods 7.5 weeks each) of clinical practice in the Fourth year during the spring semester. This period will relate to PHTH 310 and 212. In this course students will be expected to complete 270 practical hours. The practicum will be related to PHTH 210, 310 and 311 PHTH 211, 212 and 312, also student will gain experience in treating patient with multiple disabilities and progressive conditions. As the students are approaching their final practical courses, main objective of these courses will be to prepare students for more independent situation with less direct supervision.

PHTH405 - Clinical Field Work V - 5 credits

Students will complete a fifteen-week full time period of supervised clinical practice during the Fall Semester in the fourth year. This period will relate to PHTH 210,310, and PHTH 212, 312, and 311. Students will gain experience in treating patients with multiple disabilities and progressive conditions. During this period students will prepare a patient study, which will be utilized in PHTH 314. During this period students will have some choice in the kind of physiotherapy facility visited, dependent upon negotiations between themselves, faculty staff and clinical supervisors. Any student who has missed part of the previous five clinical fieldwork blocks must use part of the time to gain experience missed. In these courses students will be expected to complete 270 practical hours.

PHTH406 - Clinical Field Work VI - 5 credits

Students will complete a fifteen-week full time period of supervised clinical practice during the Fall Semester in the fourth year. This period will relate to PHTH 210, 310, and PHTH 212, 312, and 311. Students will gain experience in treating patients with multiple disabilities and progressive conditions. During this period students will prepare a patient study, which will be utilized in PHTH 314. During this period students will have some choice in the kind of physiotherapy facility visited, dependent upon negotiations between themselves, faculty staff and clinical supervisors.
